Book My Planning Call

By Knight Lancaster, JD, CPA · Last reviewed May 2026

Lancaster Law is a Nashville wills and estate planning practice. The Adams Street office in Germantown is where most of our work is drafted, reviewed with the family, and signed. Plans built here are built to keep your family out of court, your finances private, and your wishes plain.

Knight Lancaster, JD, CPA, MBA, is the founder of Lancaster Law, P.C. and The Lancaster CPA Firm, P.C. He is one of a small number of attorneys in Tennessee who is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant. For the families we serve, that means the trust and the tax return are read in the same hour, by the same person, in the same room.

The Families We Serve

Who we sit down with.

Most of the Nashville families we work with come to us with a list that has been growing for years. The will from 2008. The business with no succession plan. The parents who refuse to talk about any of it. The blended family. The second property nobody is quite sure who owns. The kid who moved to Austin or Denver, and the question of what happens to her if both of you go on the same trip. The investment account titled in one name when it should have been titled in two.

We work through the list one item at a time, in writing, so nothing is left to memory or to hope. Most families finish the plan in three visits, over four to six weeks.

What We Handle

Five practice areas, one table.

Estate PlanningThe full plan: wills, trusts, healthcare directives, powers of attorney. Drafted in one sitting.
WillsA stand-alone will, current and clear, for families who do not yet need a trust.
TrustsRevocable, irrevocable, asset protection, and special needs structures, funded properly.
Tax PlanningEstate, gift, and income tax planning, read by a JD CPA, on the same page as the legal work.
Business ServicesFamily LLCs, succession plans, and buy-sell agreements drafted with the estate in view.

What the Plan Has to Do

What a Nashville plan has to do.

Nashville families come to us with different lives but a similar list of needs. A complete plan should do five things at once.

Keep things private.

A plan drafted well stays inside the family. A plan drafted poorly becomes part of the public record. Most of the families we sit down with want their finances, their debts, and their decisions to stay between the people they choose.

Keep the family out of court.

Tennessee allows revocable living trusts, properly titled accounts, and beneficiary designations that transfer an estate to the next generation without a judge involved. Most of our planning is built to use them.

Address what happens before death, not just after.

Incapacity is the harder problem and the one most people skip. A complete plan tells your spouse and your adult children who decides about your money, your home, and your healthcare if you cannot.

Account for the business.

If you own a business, the plan has to answer what happens to it. The legal structure, the tax consequence, and the family's role are three separate questions that need one answer.

Speak in writing.

The fight that ends a family rarely starts in a courtroom. It starts at a kitchen table after a funeral, when nobody is sure what was meant. We put the plan in plain English, with the reasoning attached, so the next conversation does not have to be a guess.

"Stewardship, not paperwork."

First Visit

First-visit, answered.

What happens at a first appointment?

A first meeting is a conversation. We listen to your family situation, your assets, your worries, and what you want to leave behind. We tell you what you need, why it matters, roughly what it will cost, and whether to start now or wait.

What should I bring?

A list of accounts and roughly what is in each. Real estate deeds, if convenient. Names of the people you would want as executor, trustee, healthcare agent, and guardian for any minor children. If you already have a plan, bring it. None of this is required for the first meeting.

I already have a will. Do I still need to come in?

Probably yes. Most of the wills we read at a first appointment were drafted before a child was born, a divorce, a parent's death, a business sale, or a move to Tennessee. Any of those changes the document's effect, and the document still says what it said in 2008. A short review tells you whether your plan still does what you want.

Can the signing happen remotely?

For most documents, yes. Tennessee Remote Online Notarization lets us execute wills, trusts, and powers of attorney without an in-person visit. A few documents still require a physical signing, and we will tell you which.

Do I have to come to the Nashville office?

No. We meet clients at six additional Tennessee offices by appointment. The drafting still happens here, and the plan is the same wherever you sign it.

Who will I meet with?

Knight Lancaster handles the planning conversation directly. The Lancaster CPA Firm, his sister firm, handles the tax filings that go with the plan when those filings are needed.
