Book My Planning Call

By Knight Lancaster, JD, CPA · Last reviewed May 2026

Lancaster Law is a Tennessee wills and estate planning practice. Our Franklin office sits in Cool Springs, the corporate corridor north of Highway 96, and we meet Williamson County families and business owners there by appointment. The drafting is handled out of our Nashville office; the signing is scheduled at the location that fits your week.

Knight Lancaster, JD, CPA, MBA, is the founder of Lancaster Law, P.C. and The Lancaster CPA Firm, P.C. He is one of a small number of attorneys in Tennessee who is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant. For the families we serve, that means the trust and the tax return are read in the same hour, by the same person, in the same room.

The Families We Serve

Who we sit down with.

A lot of the Franklin families we work with came here for a reason. The job that brought you to Cool Springs has paid off. The house has appreciated faster than the plan around it. The kids are in good schools. The will you wrote in California or Texas or Illinois has not been touched since the move. The business you started or the equity package you accepted did not exist in the version of your life that document was drafted for.

We rewrite the plan for the life you are actually living now. Most families finish in three visits over four to six weeks.

What We Handle

Five practice areas, one table.

Estate PlanningThe full plan: wills, trusts, healthcare directives, powers of attorney. Drafted in one sitting.
WillsA stand-alone will, current and clear, for families who do not yet need a trust.
TrustsRevocable, irrevocable, asset protection, and special needs structures, funded properly.
Tax PlanningEstate, gift, and income tax planning, read by a JD CPA, on the same page as the legal work.
Business ServicesFamily LLCs, succession plans, and buy-sell agreements drafted with the estate in view.

What the Plan Has to Do

What a Franklin plan has to do.

Most Franklin families came to Tennessee for a job, a school district, or a quieter drive. The plan should keep up with the life you built here.

Stand up under Tennessee law.

A plan first drafted in another state may not work the same way here. We rewrite it for the law that actually governs.

Keep the family out of court.

Properly drafted trusts, titled accounts, and beneficiary designations move an estate to the next generation without a judge involved.

Account for the business or the equity.

If the move came with stock, options, or an ownership share, the plan has to address what happens to it.

Address what happens before death, not just after.

Incapacity is the harder problem and the one most plans skip. Your spouse and your adult children should know who decides, in writing, before they need to.

Stay private.

A plan written well keeps your finances, your debts, and your decisions inside the family.

"Built around what you love."

First Visit

First-visit, answered.

What happens at a first appointment?

A first meeting is a conversation. We listen to your situation, your assets, your worries, and what you want to leave behind. We tell you what you need, why it matters, roughly what it will cost, and whether to start now or wait.

I had a will in my previous state. Does it still work in Tennessee?

Probably partly. A will valid in another state is usually recognized in Tennessee, but the practical effect can change. Powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and trust funding rules vary by state. A short review tells you whether your existing plan still does what you want.

Can the signing happen remotely?

For most documents, yes. Tennessee Remote Online Notarization lets us execute wills, trusts, and powers of attorney without an in-person visit. A few documents still require a physical signing, and we will tell you which.

Who will I meet with?

Knight Lancaster handles the planning conversation directly. The Lancaster CPA Firm, his sister firm, handles the tax filings that go with the plan when those filings are needed.

Do I have to come to Cool Springs?

No. We meet clients at six other Tennessee offices, including our home office in Nashville. The drafting still happens in Nashville, and the plan is the same wherever you sign it.
